MAMA, I WILL TRY

Mama, I know maybe you won’t read this poem,

Mama, I know maybe you won’t hear about this poem,

Because when I finish the last line of this poem,

Mama I know you’ll be sweating in the scorching sun,

In someone’s farm ploughing like a tractor,

Just to put for us some food on the table,

Mama I know you’ll come back home with a severe headache,

And still, go to the kitchen to prepare for us food,

Food that you won’t even eat because it’s not enough,

Mama just know that I will try, I will try my best in school,

I will try to make you proud,

Mama, I know maybe you won’t read this poem,

Because when I finish the last line of this poem,

I know you’ll be at the marketplace selling vegetables,

Just to pay for our school fees,

Mama I know you’ll still go and fetch water and firewood,

To cook for the neighbor’s kids and bring for us leftovers,

Mama, I know that you are just trying to be a better mother to your kids,

But mama I want you to know that I will try,

My best in life,

To take away your strife,

Mama this is to let you know that I will try,

I will never give up in life, Mama you are a champion just like other women,

Out there who struggle to raise their children,

I salute you, you are the shining candles of the world,

Mama, I will try!
